I have always wondered why tv drama always show some high flyers stepping onto Raffles Place and then the atmosphere is a hustle bustle place with people dressing very nicely walking v quickly here and there. The opposite will be a retrenched person looking very lost in this place. My guess is that this is the CBD area so you either fit in or you don't.
I had the opportunity to join the office crowd last fri as I was temp-ing there. The moment I stepped out of the mrt station the first thing I did was to lift my head up and try to spot the name of each building so that I know where to find my company. I felt my heading spinning and a sudden rush of adrealine and then a wow feeling. All the skyscrappers everywhere and everyone so sure of where they are heading to or at least I thought so. So much like what is shown on tv. Not bad.. I like the feeling.
But one thing I cannot understand and accept it the norm of reserving seats using tissue paper! I headed to BK alone during lunch and by the time I bought my food tables are all gone, either occupied or marked reserve with packets of tissue. I find this very interesting although I grow up here. I cannot see myself doing that. I've never done or seen collegues done that at other companys that I have worked at, but they are not in the town area. Does this make a difference? Wonder what the foreigners think of our unique reservation method.
