China Trip in a Nutshell

2 weeks wasn't exactly long enough to be fully immersed in the culture and way of life in China but definitely enough to give a glimpse of what this big giant has to offer. Everything seems so familiar yet different. You could see glimpse of Singapore almost everywhere in the developing areas. Design of apartments, structures of schools etc. The ambitious spirit of their people is evident to everyone. The people are hungry to improve themselves and to better their lives. In fact in most areas I would say they are much better than us.

True, they might not be good in English but we are not that good either. In fact we might be worse. Our english standards are not as good as the 'ang-mohs' and neither are our chinese standards as good as the PRCs. So where does it leave us?

True, we might be hardworking but so are they. In fact they are even more hardworking and way smarter than us. Their students study longer hours in school and are always hungry for more knowledge. They see education as the only way to have a better future. We see that too but our hunger is not comparable to theirs. I've always thought my PRC classmates are mad but you should see those in China. They will put any of us to shame.

True, they might lack in areas of personal development, cultivated self, ettiquette, organizational and managerial skills etc but they are learning, and learning fast. They see, they listen, they ask and they reproduce whatever they had learnt at a astonishing speed. Singapore might be younger than them but we have to take into consideration that they have only just begin to open up.

Can we fight against such giants? If we can't, can we fight alongside them? My heart sank alittle as I recall how focused their students are. So competition really brings out the highest level of fighting spirit. And I believe this spirit will work well for them in future when working. So where is our strength? Those that are not easily replaceable.
