We were made to memorize the 38 collision regulations. It was highlighted as a very important convention. We memorized things like in the event of 2 ship heading heads-on, they should each alter their course to the starboard side so that each will pass on the port side of the other so as to prevent collison. We also had to remember things like in the event of a maneuver, the ship have to indicate by giving 1 short blast, 2 short blasts or 3 short blasts all representing a different meaning. Not forgetting the over-taking rules just like you have to signal before overtaking another car. If you are going to over take on the other ship's starboard side you have to give 2 prolong blasts followed by 1 short blasts and the ship you are overtaking has to give her agreement by 1 prolong, 1 short, 1 prolon, 1 short blast. All these plus many more rules. Memorizing util we see stars. We were still wondering how those ship master can remember them.
Then it DID NOT appear in the exam at all. Not even a 1 mark question. You can sense how grumpy we were after the paper. If it is not important then don't tell us we MUST remember the sound and light signals and we even put * our lecture notes to indicate the importance. Well done Mr Lecturer. Instead things that were touch and go in class like ballast water management and what double hull appeared. 10 marks each somemore. Scruntinize the notes and you can't find more than 3 lines on both of it. -_-"
Now I'm going to study for my very last paper and the one I dreaded most. Science. A combi of geography and physics. yuck. Can't wait yet at the same time hope it doesn't come soon coz I have not started on this module at all.
