My lecturer on crisis stress management was talking about the importance of having a good spokesperson especially in time of crisis as they provide a face to a otherwise faceless organization. People during times of crisis are very suggestable and take whatever is reported in the media without much thought. And he related that one spokesperson in some country a long time ago was actually at the radio station to answer phone calls of the people who called in regarding the disaster.
Caller: "Hello.... I am very terrified now. Tell me what should I do?"
Spokesperson: (abit thrown back by this qn) Go drink a glass of water.
The spokesperson intention was just for the caller to calm himself down but all the people who are tuned in to the radio actually took listened to him and went to drink water and some drank more than a glass I think. At that instant, the water level of the country's water tank went down temendously. Seriously. -_-" I think the spokesperson should ask the caller to take deep breadth instead. But then, will this result in drop of oxygen in the air??
