Sometimes I wonder why can people be so good at PR. I think my PR skills sucks to the core. Not that I cannot talk, just that I find it hard to talk to strangers. Imagine at a function and you don't know anyone. So what do you do? The magic word these days is "Networking". Yes, I know I'm suppose to go up to people and 'network'. But I can't bring myself to do it and I wonder if I can ever do it in this lifetime.
I simply find it weird. Weird to suddenly go up to someone and start chatting. If someone come and talk to me I'm find with it, I will talk to the person. But if you want to to initate... then most prob you find me still standing in one corner for the rest of the function. I've attended several of such functions and I always end up talking to the 1 or 2 ppl that went together with me. I find it especially fascinating when I observe some of my classmates hop around and talk to different people. I really wonder what did they talk about.
Coz you see those ppl are usually working people in the industry and usually old man. So what do you expect me to talk to them about? Golf? or The latest movie?? Anyway I don't know anything about both. And also their intellect level is erm so much higher than us can. At least I think so. What I know is only the basic of this complicated + complex industry. So basic that I think they even forgot their existence. Whereas what they talk about are thousands of dollars which I find it too complex to understand, yet.
Oh my oh my. You ask me to give a speech no proble. Make presentation no proble. Just don't ask me to talk to people that I don't know. This is bad I know.
Just as my previous entry on zodiac reading says, I don't know how to flatter peopel, even when it means giving good wishes. Yes I find it weird even when I have to wish ppl "Good Luck", "Good Day" verbally. Of course I mean it when I say it but I just find it weird to say it out. I find it too much of PR. Like certain people when they call you they will first ask how are you, have you taken your lunch then the main motive of the phone call comes. For me it will be cut all this crap and quickly tell me what you want. Do you really care whether the person has eaten or not esp when you only know the person on a business basis and not a friend?
