Lazy Weekend

I spent last Saturday evening going to a watch a magic show + drama. Its a show called Magic of Love put up by a church. My secondary school teacher went to that church and invited a few of us to watch it. It was put together as some sort of a musical with a storyline about the father's unconditional love for the daughter and incorporated magic tricks into the performances. Those tricks were nothing fancy..the usual that you will see on tv. The sawing of a person into half, the diaasppearing and appearing act etc. My friend and I think that the trick has got something to do with the stage background coz it always matches the colour of the magician's costume. If it is a red dress then the background will be in a similar shade of red too. We're not sure if it is true though.

Spent Sunday sleeping in till around 11+.. I was shocked coz I don't usually sleep past 10am. Then flipping through the papers and finally spending the entire day watching my pilot show on youtube! haha... Anyway I saw something in the newpaper's forum section and it jolted my memory that I had intended to comment on some issues a few weeks ago but apparently forgotten about it.

One is the documentary-style tv show on the wedding preparations of this couple who is extremely rich. I say so coz they took their wedding photos in the guy's home and the furniture are those european style items and obviously a landed property, possibly a detached house? Anyway the bride's family is equally wealthy from the extreme high ceilings of the her house so it must be those landed property again. They bidded for a antique kimono cloth and turn it into a cheong-sam and also spent another $30,000 on the bridal gown and whatnots to make sure it is an elaborate wedding. Wealthy people cannot lose face can they? They even took up ballroom dancing from a renowed instructor so that they can perform for their guests during the wedding dinner. Now my question is, is this a show for your guests? Isn't it suppose to be a dinner to share your joy with all your relatives and friends? Ok, everyone can have different idea of the kind of wedding they want but 1 thing that the groom said which irked me alot.

He said something like "We didn't spend a lot of money on the wedding. We spend alot of time and effort to do these things.........."
Granted that he did indeed think he spent more effort and time but how can he say he didn't spend alot of money when the bridal gown alot if $30,000 mind you. This amt of money can be the entire wedding expenses for some couples. Maybe to him who has assets of 1 million, 30K is nothing but to someone who earn only 30K per year it is alot. I'm not saying he cannot spend so much on his wedding since it is his money, I might even do the same (if I've such money) but I felt he could have phrased his thought better.
