Happy Birthday Singapore!!!
As usual I watched the parade from home.. in front of the tv coz I've not tickets!! I balloted using my name, my mum's, my dad's and even my bro's but still I did not get any. Why am I so suay!? I had a chance to attend the preview though.. but I was too zoombified after uoc to go.
Is it me or is it really that this year's parade is much more spectacular.. at least the fireworks lah! There seems to be ALOT of specatators this year or are my eyes playing tricks on me? Well, its the last year the parade will be held there. It will be torn down to make way for something more grand. My favourite part of whole ndp is always contingent parade part followed by the military band and then the fireworks.
I simply feel my something tugging at my heart whenever I see the contingents marching our so smartly in their uniform. Sure not all of them are there voluntarily or even proud to be there but at least everyone of them put in sweat and blood, ok maybe no blood, to practice hard for the few miniutes on the actual day. I will always remember how I feel when I was marching back in secondary school days. I simply feel SO proud when marching out with the drum beat. That is the moment that everyone is working so hard for!! The discipline, the bond forged, the long long hours of training and endless scoldings and finally The Moment. All these can only be memories now. The only regret I have now is not having a chance to participate in the real ndp parade. The batch before and after mine both got the chance to. So disappointed. And the next regret is not being able to at least watch 1 ndp parade at the current stadium before it is torn down. I've never been to a ndp parade before.
Deyi's band is good! I always love to watch military band coz they have to multi-task, playing the instrunment and also marching to form formations. It is simply amazing to look at them! The drum major is also someone I would always spot coz I am awe at their ability to twist n turn the erm.. what you call that long stick they hold, shaft?
Despit the grumblings that I have, I still love Singapore at the end of the day. I'm glad to be born here. =)
