After working for a month, I've come to a conclusion. Working and schooling is indeed VERY different. But I don't understand why it is so different. I mean the people working are the people who used to be schooling right!? So why the stark difference in attitude and behaviour. I think it is the work culture that make us this way. There is a way to dress, a way to speak, a way to behave. Anything outside the norm is considered inappropriate.
People are putting on a fake front. Either delibrately or unconsciously. People don't talk much unless you're of a more senior level. People don't mention much about their private life. People don't make much jokes. This is why collegues are seldom friends. You'll introduce them as 'my collegue' and seldom as 'my friend' do you? Collegues don't get too close for work reasons too. If too close, there might be some hesistation when the need to instruct or confront them about some work-related problems. And people talk with double meanings too. I had some problems deciding to believe or not believe somethings they say coz a few times I believe and it turn out they are just kidding.... -_-". At work I'm known as the 'young girl'. At least I'm no longer 'xiao mei'. Promoted slightly.
