I just watched a program on Ch 8. It is about this parent that sent their children for all sorts of classes. Ice-skating, piano, violin, ballet, dance, badminton etc. Really alot of things. The parent's rationale for these is that children need to have discipline. So from young they train them to manage their time by attending these classes and of course you need discipline to train in all those areas too. They say that they will not know where their children's talent lies so the only way is to expose them to a variety of classes and narrow down their interest/talent as they grow older.
My mum was commenting that you need to have a rich father before you can have all these. haha.. true. These classes are not cheap. She also commented that the children will not have a childhood. But then I don't think it is so bad. At least they get to discover their talents or at least train their talents in certain areas. I did not learn anything when I was young except the short period of art class. I still sucks at art now.. ahah! I had wanted to learn piano when I was young but my mum say no money. haiz.. Money is not everything but money really can work wonders.
IF I have the means in future and IF I have children... I will also send them for classes. Maybe not so much as those children in the tv program la.. but at least piano, swimming and maybe ballet for girls? Coz I always believe music n dance will make a person erm... more refine? If the children don't like they can stop la.. but at least they have tried before. And it is best to let children learn more when young coz their learning ability is very strong mah.
See la..now like me.. what do I noe? nth. I can't really say i can swim, as a result I'm apprhensive of trying water sports.. I can't say I can cycle too. I am more of like Jack or rather Jill of all trades, master of none. =\
