Dinner @ Halia Restaurant.

Before I forgot let me blog about a dinner I had sometime this week. The co. was entertaining some overseas collegues/clients so the whole dept went for a sort of farewell dinner for them. It was at Halia Restaurant. Its near the Botanical Garden. Heard from my collegues that food is good there and indeed the food was not bad. Its those fine dinning style. I was abit awe... coz I don't do fine dinning everyday do I? I'm not born in a wealthy upper class family. But luckily its only 3 course meal not those with multiple course and the spread of utensils can be ALOT. Of course I also so know that for fine dinning you start using the utensils from the outtermost.

We were sitting outside and the ambience was quite good. Cool ceiling fans and warm glow of the candles. Sounds good for a romantic candlelight dinner right? But too bad it is a co. dinner. ahha.. Anyway think we made more noise than the other patrons coz we make up almost half the number of patrons. Not many people are there. I guess the location is not very accessible and it is a weeknight. For appetiser it is young spinach salad and main course there is 3 choices and I had grilled tenderloin of US beef & braised prime short rib with mushroom ragout, onion compote and galette of potato gnocchi. It was nice! For dessert I chose warm bittersweet chocolate torte with a centre of melted chocolate, served with vanilla ice cream abf kirsch-marinated strawberries. It was good!! The manager said that I made a good choice... *beams*. I tried my collegue's calvados & cinnamon apple trifle which is sauteed green apples layered with liqueur-soaked sponge, vanilla cream and apple jelly and I would say my choice is better! Yum..

I wonder how much it cost. And there was white wine and 2 kinds of red wine. White wine was served before dinner and my collegues were all asking have I reach the age limit to drink. I was like -_-" I said I was 18 and they believe. My goodness. When main course was served there was red wine. Though I am not an alcohol or wine person, but if you want me to choose, I would say white wine tast slightly better coz it is not so bitter as compared to the red wine. Or should I say it is not so dry? But I heard good red wine are suppose to be dry... true?? My collegues commented that the white wine is smooth... but I don't know what is means. I only drank like a third of the glass of red white and left it alone coz I don't like and I don't know if I'm allergic to alcohol...haha! When my collegue saw it he ask "you don't want already ah?" Then he took it and drink... is it so nice?! * faints* Guess there is really alot more to learn about etiquette, dinning and entertaining guests. But then everyone was more cheery that night, maybe because it is out of office and also maybe its the influence of the wine... everyone is laughing and having fun. And the 'ang-moh' collegues are so funny they way they pepper their conversation with descriptions and sound effects.

Gotta go get ready to attend another birthday party. My 3rd one this year... and I expect a few more to come since everyone is turning 21 this year. One word - BROKE.
